Re: [wtp-incubator-dev] More on XSL Graduation ...

As I said, I'm fine with a separate project, and it fits into my ideal long term goal for an XML Development Tools project to house some of these sub projects.

I agree with all your points. I just do not know what the other tools are like. My preference is it's own project for the reasons you stated.

I really don't want to come of as pushing you guys in particular direction. It is really a decision that XSL committers should make and be comfortable with. I do want to point out that there are certain advantages to having a separate project...

1. You release on your own schedule.

2. You have a separate committers list locked to a separate CVS repository. This also makes elections more straightforward.

3. If the XML Tools project ever comes to be, it will trivial to move XSL Tools project from WTP to XML Tools. On the other hand, if the XSL Tools code has been merged into the Source Editing project, pulling it back out will take more work (both at the technical level and the process level).

4. You get more visibility by being listed as a project in places like (http://www.eclipse.org/projects/listofprojects.php). Of course, there are disadvantages as well. If we assume that you guys will want to manage a separate build in either case, the main overhead of a separate project involves keeping project metadata in the portal up to date.

I think it's still a reasonable enough fit into Source Editing, as there

largely a decision for the XSL committers to decide upon, though, whether
you feel the organizational overhead is worth the effort compared to
working under my tyrannical leadership. That the Faceted Project
Framework and XML Editors are installable on their own from the Update
Site shows that the project organization doesn't have to dictate the
deliverable units of function.

In reality it doesn't matter to me. I just specified a particular
preference.
