I would argue that calling this a feature smacks of Stockholm syndrome. This behavior is a natural consequence of the weakness in CVS that directories aren't versioned; one of the many problems fixed by SVN and later systems. If -d -P were the default behavior, it would be less of an issue. On Jan 7, 2010, at 8:36 AM, David Carver wrote: CVS always shows a directory because of past revisions. Thus the CVS feature. directories always remain there.)
Dave said this is a CVS feature, but honestly I don't understand it :)
Thanks again the CVS frustration is a little smaller now (just a little)!

Looks done. That was quick!
I am curious why it was needed? (I think I know, but best to
document such things, since removing something from a source
control system is normally rare, even discouraged).
Also, be sure your cvs client (hopefully Eclipse :) is set up to
"ignore empty directories on check out" so normally you'd never
see it, if empty.
And most important, be sure bin/ is in your .cvsignore file.
(Normally this is the "default behavior" but I know there's some
sequence of events that causes 'bin' to get in cvs, and then it is
hard to get rid of, and,
as I suspect you know, derived resources should rarely go in cvs).

Thanks Dave,
I have created https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=299036
for this. I hope this is OK.

It's a CVS feature. In order to physical delete it you need to
open a
request with the eclipse Web Master in the Eclipse Foundation
project.
Make sure to CC David Williams on the request as well. Specify
in the bug
report which directories need to be permanently deleted and the
reason for
the deletion.

Hi David!
Can you please delete the following two entries from the CVS
control?
I cannot make it. They also say it is not doable:
http://www.eclipsezone.com/eclipse/forums/t106383.html
incubator/sourceediting/plugins/org.eclipse.wst.xquery.core/bin
incubator/sourceediting/plugins/org.eclipse.wst.xquery.core/bin1
Can you give me pls give me instructions on how to delete in the
future other directories that remain unused?
Thanks!
Gabriel
