RE: [wtp-incubator-dev] JAX-WS and graduation?

I put my release reviews in webtools\releaseReviews if you want to put it in there under a dated directory (that's in our website repo). You can also just send files, since the eventual official copy will be on the Eclipse Foundations 'projects' site, from the files we send them.

As for IP Review, I've argued in the past we don't need one for a graduation review (just for release reviews) and was told "do it anyway" :)  So, we could push back a little on that, but its not a bad idea to do it anyway. Unfortunately, the "auto ip" log will only give a starting point. What I've done in the past, is "save" the HTML output from the incubator's IP log:

http://www.eclipse.org/projects/ip_log.php?projectid=webtools.incubator

And then read that into a tool like WTP :) or even Open Office and delete the stuff that is not relevant to the component under review. Its a painful hack, but is easier than typing it all over again. And, of course, you need to make sure its accurate! You'll need to do all that soon enough for Release Review, so its good to do it now to make sure it comes together ... plus, more important, some of it, such as CQs, might have to "move" from incubator component to webservices component.

To answer more than you asked about, I think the most important things to stress in a graduation review, is to highlight how you've "fit in" to the larger WTP project, and demonstrate that you do have adopters and users  (such as from bug reports, news group questions, etc ... even Oisin's questions would count a little  :)

HTH.

Hi David,

No not thinking that. Just wanted to be clear on what's required.

Is there anywhere in CVS you'd recommend to commit an initial draft / template to enable shared editing?

And for the IP log information. How do we generate that?

Thanks,
Shane

Yes. PMC needs to approve all requests for releases, creations, moves, and graduation (I'm pretty sure ... are you thinking we do not have to?), and yes, best if "final" docuware.

Hi David,

So we need to seek PMC approval before requesting the graduation review.

What materials would be required by the PMC on the 15th? The docuware?

Thanks,
Shane

Needs to be (at least) two weeks before scheduled, and you should get to PMC at least a week before that, for their approval. I don't know for sure the EMO will hold reviews on March 10th, but they normally do on Wednesday's and they have some on February 10, so seems. likely. Guess it might slip to 17th. But, assuming 10th,  and counting backwards, that'd mean having materials to PMC on 2/17th, at latest.  By 15th would be best, since our meetings are on Tuesday's we could discuss at 2/16 meeting if required.

Seem feasible?

Thanks,

Hi David,

Yes still interested in doing the graduation review next month. The 10th was the date mentioned.

How soon would we need to send the email to the emo to schedule the review?

Thanks,
Shane

I have a reminder to myself, to remind the JAX-WS team, about graduation about now.

Still interested?

At one point, we discussed doing it in early March so that at EclipseCon you could talk up how you'd graduated.

If that's no longer required or desired, then as far as I know, you could pretty easily just graduate with the Helios release.
(You'd still need the "graduation request", docuware, etc. ... just the timing would change).

If there is "hard" dependencies in other Helios projects, (e.g. SOA) then you might also want to do it early, to remove any doubt those other projects might have.

What's the current thinking?

Thanks,
