Given the current state of my learning curve, I would prefer to work
through Achim for the testing until all of us are little more
comfortable that a) I know what I'm doing and b) We're all comfortable
working with each other on an ongoing basis.

Since I'm still learning what I am doing at a very basic level, I would
suggest that a) is not yet satisfied.

I may be assuming something that is not true, but I get a sense that
Joel, Barbara, and Achim have worked together in the past and are
comfortable with each other. I'm the new kid on the block, so it may
take some time before b) is satisfied.

To put some perspective around the learning curve, I am going to have to
learn how to submit a patch for review in Eclipse. For that matter, I am
still going to have to learn Eclipse. Coming from a Visual
Studio/Microsoft Office world, there is still a lot that is new!

If this is satisfactory, then I'll happily work through Achim for the
testing. As well, I keep my eyes open for other holes in the project
that I may be able to plug and try and work through various learning
curves as quickly as possible.

There are a couple of housekeeping items that you should be aware of:

1/ I live in Toronto, Canada. Current time is UTC -4 hours, but when
Daylight Savings Time ends, it will be UTC - 5 hours. I also have a full
time job and no access to Eclipse or my e-mail during working hours. The
bulk of my work on the project will be done during the evenings or early
mornings. I am estimating that I will be able to spend approximately 6
hours per week, in addition to the Sunday conference calls (at about
4:00 p.m. Toronto time).

2/ Although English is my first language, the spelling standard may be a
little different than you are used to. As a rough guide to Canadian
English spelling, if a word is different between British and American
English, then whichever occurs first in the dictionary will generally be
used - with the exception of words ending in 'our' (British) and
'or' (American). There is ambivalence around 'ize' and 'ise'. Most
Canadians use 'ize'. As well, the words 'amongst' and 'whilst' are
considered archaic and are never used. We also use commas after the last
item in a list before 'and' or 'or' - the Americans do not.

3/ I have learned to use unambiguous short-form dates. In many places,
dates are written 04/05/2008, which could mean either April 5, 2008 or
May 4, 2008. For this reason, I have always written Apr-5-2008, which
removes all ambiguity. In Canada, we tend to follow the American model
of M/D/YYYY, except in government publications which are D/M/YYYY. Now
you understand why I use unambiguous short-form dates. If there is a
standard that you prefer to use, then I will conform to it.
