Re: [ofmp-dev] Committer Election for Jan Blankenhorn

It's actually not at all strange.

When Nathan was hired by the Eclipse Foundation to work as a web designer, he had to go through a process of becoming a committer on the Phoenix project. He started by making several contributions though bugzilla which existing committers reviewed and then committed on his behalf. After he established a trend of contributing high-quality patches and other contributions, he was nominated as a committer. The same is true for Gabe and Karl on various projects they commit on.

Being a committer on an Eclipse project is all about merit. You have to demonstrate that you have the required credentials to be a committer before you can become one.

Can you describe a little more about the work Jan did on the Victoria project? What functionality did he contribute? Is there some existing part of OFMP that you can cite as work Jan did?

Hello!

If someone starts to work on a project, it's a bit strange to expect
any contributions, before he started. As I say, Jan is assigned to the
task, and I am sure he will do his job well.

In addition, I can add that he already worked for Victoria project - a
closed source software which code base is a basis for initial part of
OFMP. His responsibility was to develop a test suite for integration
testing.

I'll need a little more to work with before we can approve.

What qualifications does Jan bring? Has Jan made any significant
contributions to the project already?

Thanks,

Hello!

Jan works for WeigleWilczek (one of the companies, behind OFMP). From
now on, Jan will be in charge of OFMP project web site. We have to
improve a lot there, so we will have a dedicated person for this job.

Can you please provide some rationalization for the nomination of Jan
Blankenhorn as committer.

We need a little more than "New committer on project" or "yo!". Something
like "Jan provided us with a great contribution (bug xxxx) and has agreed
to
come on board to support it" or "Jan is a giant in the field and our
project
will benefit greatly from the added wisdom and guidance"

Thanks,

Wayne
