RE: [mylar-dev] Help needed with connector integration

Lubos

For 2.0M1 I hope that we have the update-site based linking:

166733: Mylar update site should link to companion update sites

  https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=166733

It would also be good to provide a place on our web site where we can link to integrators’ plugins.  If you would like the CodeBeamer connector linked please add a comment with the page to the following bug report:

171887: provide web site links to 3rd party integrations

  https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=171887

Mik,

I am planning to do that as soon as I am done with the connector (almost there, just need more testing),
and then my plan was to cleanup the document before I post it to Mylar wiki. I should nave some draft
worth transferring to Mylar wiki by the end of this week.

On related note, I have a question about where should be newly developed connector hosted. Do you want to have it
as part of the Mylar distribution (like Bugzilla, Trac, Jira), or should be the connector developer be responsible for
distribution or ...

For example, CodeBeamer connector is open source I have developed (with help from Intland, Codebemer creator)
and could be contributed to Mylar if the Mylar commiters approve. So I guess the package/project naming depend on
the way the connector will be distributed. It would be good if you guys can define a policy, options and rules for
new Mylar connector distribution.

We recommend that those interested in integrating Mylar email

upcoming changes.  We encourage integrators to take the "act now, apologize
later" approach to adding and updating wiki documentation.  Committers
review all changes and will update them as needed.  Evolving the
documentation with integrator contributions works well because it ensures
that the documentation takes the perspective of newcomers.  It also helps
committers dedicate more time to responding to requests for improving the
corresponding APIs.

Jim: while we have been relying on using the existing connectors as
examples, I'm wondering if it would be helpful if we created something like
an org.eclipse.mylar.examples.connector project with a simple connector like
the one that you provided.  Is this something that you would be interested
in contributing?

Lubos: are you interested in moving your notes to the wiki to make it easy
for others to refer to and evolve them?  I took a quick look and they look
quite useful.  Note that a change I would make is to encourage people to
name their projects without the org.eclipse.mylar prefix if the projects are
not hosted in the Mylar CVS repository.

Yes, by all means place any valuable information regarding constructor
creation here:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Mylar_Integrator_Reference#Creating_Connec
tors

This is the new wiki page for integrators.
