I don't want to create yet another instance of a markerview, but I don't see an easy alternative. I need to display feedback/comments about a resource. Each comment is a marker, yet it doesn't fall under the category of bookmark, todo, or problem. So, our current approach is to display a new view called feedback. This view needs to support all of the common function of sorting, grouping, filtering, etc. that is free in MarkerView, hence the request to make it API. I would prefer that there be a single generic marker view with multiple modes, as discussed in bug 37974. Then we could just define a new mode, give it a name, and define the marker types that belong in it. But the above request seems more likely to happen.
This is quite a big job (i.e. a plan item). Closing as WONTFIX as we don't forseeably have the people to work on it.
This is being considered for 3.4 although I suspect we will do a new view rather than just promote the existing one.
Is there a place where this discussion (..."new view"...) can be tracked? My preferred approach would be to go back to a single view with the equivalent of "Working Sets" for Markers, but that is a very challenging paradigm to figure out.
Randy I am planning to discuss it here which is why I am marking this a blocker for some related bugs. My personal preference is to go the one view route as well with a pluggable respresentaton (as columns different from look to look). I am currently in the requirements stage so I am interested to hear your ideas.
