Tom - don't think that. This is a proposal after all.

The issue about opening text editor going away is pretty trivial to handle
by having a text editor that won't enable the extension point - so I don't
see a big issue here.

Your objection about breaking other editors that extend today - can you give
an example of where you think it will break ?

afaics if an existing editor overrides the methods then he is in same situation
as today - he is fully owner of his editors setup.

Thus this won't break anything (Afaics) but on upside it works for new editors
and can (somewhat) easily be enabled for existing editors with slight adjustments.

I'm interested to hear if we are missing something here that you are seeing that we don't ?
