RE: [phoenix-dev] New website design: a call for participation

I get the felling that the drive here is to see something very different
then what we have currently. While I'm not opposed to this approach I do
think that there should be a lot of caution used when designing a layout
like this. Keep in mind that we have a very broad target audience.
Designing a homepage that is like FireFox [1] is great for someone who just
wants to download Eclipse but for a committer or a developer looking for
resources / projects it's less then adequate.

I think that the biggest challenge we face is catering to all of these
different user types at the same time. They can't all be equal and the time
has come where we need to decide which of these users are the most
important. At that point we can then design a page that satisfies those
requirements.

I like this idea. Personally I'd also like to lose the header bar. :)
Modern pages seem to use a more integrated approach to displaying this
information, and use whitespace around the edge of the page. IMHO that's
a better look. I understand the need to supporting existing information,
though. So I like the idea of asking for both. That way we know what
we're missing. Or what we're not missing. :)
