Re: [phoenix-dev] RE: UI Templates for eclipse.org - Draft
|
Andrew,
Before posting this to the newsgroup, let us set up the Phoenix project
first: this includes CVS and Bugzilla components.
The Call for Contributions post could then indicate that contributors
should open one bug per submitted template, and use Bugzilla's voting
mechanism to vote on the design they like best. It would also be good to
specify that we want design templates as low-res JPG/screenshots -- no
actual HTML/CSS. In Bugzilla, folks can attach a JPEG to the bug
(submission).
Once we decide on the template/templates the we and the community like
best, we would contact the winning "contributor" to kindly ask them for
the high-res graphics files (an .eps file, or a .ai file, or whatever)
of their contribution.
* effective of Eclipse software icons and palette
I would specify Effective use of Eclipse software icons, color palettes
and other visual cues that could help potential users identify the
website to the product.

I am trying to draft out a call for submissions for design treatments.
This is what I have so far. Any comments/ suggestions?

*Call for Submissions - The New Eclipse.ORG Web Templates - DRAFT*
* *
The Phoenix Project is looking for submissions to put together design
treatments for the Phoenix Project. For an overview of the project go to
http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/eclipse-phoenix/index.html
Attached are four wire frames to give potential designers a starting
point. Some of the design elements we would like to see include:
* a clean and uncluttered presentation
* proper use of the Eclipse logo - See Eclipse Logo and Trademark
usage guidelines <http://www.eclipse.org/artwork/logo_guidelines.html>
* effective of Eclipse software icons and palette
* cascading menus
All submissions are subject to the Eclipse Public License Agreement

Subject: RE: UI Templates for eclipse.org
I think this is a *great* idea.
Would it be fun to turn this into a competition and have a some sort of
prize for the winner? Perhaps we could use the bug voting mechanism to
have the community involved in selecting the winner?
There should not be any licensing issues. The Terms of Use on our web
site says that anything that comes into our newsgroups, etc. are
contributions under the EPL. But we should make this explicit to avoid
any misunderstandings.
Can we aim for having the post with a skeleton wireframe on our
newsgroup for end of the week? (This assumes that everyone else agrees
with this
approach.)
We could also use a similar approach to come up with a library of design
templates for project pages, correct?
