We are not searching for words. It should show all the occurrence but if there are more than 40 hit files, you need to go to next page and so on.
I am not sure in what case "the text gets cut up into 'words'". Please open a bug with examples if you still see it.

Does this only happen to linked folders? The indexer does not get updated after a while?

I use orion search a lot now. But a major thing that bothers me is the white space search[1].
Another thing is the delayed update of the indexer but as I already know this I always wait for a while after I changed something or just pulled.
But if there are any other major reasons preventing you from using orion search, please open bugs and we should take them as priorities.

3. git ui. 
  The UI is ofputting to me. So much so, that I really didn't bother much
  trying to use it. I just use local git commandline and other tools
  like gitg that I'm accustomed to using.
4. logging in again, and again... and again is annoying to me as well.
5. I don't like to use favorites, so the empty area on the left side of the editor 
  is a waste of space (maybe put a navigator, or remove it alltogether, 
  having it empty is useless) Yes, I can close it. But still.
6. The default editor font is too big.
7. It needs to be more easy to work with multiple editors (I can open multiple
   browser windows, close stuff I don't want (favourites), configure my browser
   to hide its own navbars etc. Then carefully put these windows side-by side...
   But this is really too much work to setup a spit screen editor environment.
