Re: [nebula-dev] Nebula Website

Hi Ivan

We're trying to put a nightly build up, but it doesn't work yet. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=237588 Help is welcome :)
The only way you can download the latest widget is from cvs right now.

Nicolas.

Hi all,

Why not have some things like nightly build ? like Eclipse does.
This at least will speed up Nebula project. Allowing more developers
test it. By the way, is there anyway that to download the current
build ? (nightly build )

Thanks

I would strongly advise against KTable. Like you said it's old, and we evaluated it thoroughly (well, I did) for our rather large-scale app at our company and it was bug-ridden and problematic. I've actually evaluated it twice, as we used it back in 2006 when it was still rather active (and we
still had issues then).

The Grid is great and works really well, Tom is updating it as well so it's moving along. We used that for a while but unfortunately had issues using
the viewer as it can't do Virtual mode (yet).

Currently we use Nat table and I'm really liking it. It still has some bugs but there's a whole team actively working on it, and just yesterday the
author sent me a new "core" after I reported a bug the day before.

I think it comes down to what you need to use it for. The grid is much
easier to use than Nat as Nat uses a rather non-SWT API.

And just as a reference, I wrote an article on using all 3 tables with Glazed Lists that you may want to check out as it'll give you a little more
insight into the different table styles:

Thanks Nicolas. That worked.

I am working on a project, and need to make a choice between Grid and
KTable. Anyone has any ideas on why one is better that the other?

It seems to me that KTable has not been worked on since 2007, judging by their forum activity and last bug closed. However, no bugs seem to
have been closed on Grid since last Sep either. I don't know how to
find out the aliveness of either widget.

Thanks,

Hi Hamid,

This CVS contains the code for all nebula widgets, but the web access
link
is invalid (need to fix that)
You can look at the cvs content (web access) at

http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/org.eclipse.swt.nebula/?root=Technology_Project

This is the best way to get the latest widgets.

Hello guys,

Any word on when the nebula widgets will be available for download
again?

I can see a way to access a CVS here:

http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project_summary.php?projectid=technology.nebula

Does this contain nebula project code as well?
Any tips would be very helpful, thanks.

To conform with incubation the downloads need a few things:

located on eclipse servers
packaged correctly (have "incubation" in the bundle description - see
the
link below)
named correctly (have "incubation" in the zip file name - see the link
below)
located on the download page (which has the incubation logo)

None of our downloads conformed so they were removed to speed the
process
(which apparently worked as it only took Anne a few minutes to
confirm).

Now that the project is conforming, we can bring back the downloads,
but
they need to be repackaged and linked correctly. I'll do my best to
get
CDateTime back up (a more recent build) by the end of the weekend, but
with
our present system, each widget will be uploaded as the developer's
schedule
allows.

I hope this clears things up a little - it's just part of growing and
getting ready to move to the next level.

Jeremy Dowdall wrote:

You're very welcome Tom :)

Nebula is now conforming to incubation:
http://www.eclipse.org/projects/listofprojects.php#technology.nebula

The primary change causing this was the removal of non- conforming
download
links. If anyone would like put up a new download link, please put
it
on
the download page rather than the widget's page, and make sure to
follow
the
branding guidelines (section 2, items 4 & 5):

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Development_Resources/HOWTO/Conforming_Incubation_Branding

Also note that there is now a single snippets page for all widgets.
When
adding additional snippets please add them there and not to the
individual
widget's page.

I think everyone here has been able to edit the website, but if
anyone
has
trouble feel free to shoot me an email and I'll try to help.

Just a quick note to let people know that I've updated the website
to
get Nebula a little closer to conforming with incubation rules. I've also emailed EMO to let them know and find out what the next
steps
are.
