Re: [epp-dev] Status of Galileo M5 builds

Okay. I'm on it.

The changes should be live in the next minute or so. Comments welcomed.

Hmm, let's remove this button (temporarily).

Currently it does not make sense to have it on this page, but it will
make sense as soon as we will have Galileo Milestone packages on the
packaging site (yes, this packaging site is able to distinct between
past=Ganymede / present=GanymedeSR2 / future=GalileoMx versions).

The middle button on http://local.eclipse.org/epp/, labeled "Milestones",
points to /downloads/packages. I'm not sure that I understand the
connection. I expect this button to lead me to the milestones for the latest
build.

Should we temporarily remove the button, or is it supposed to point
somewhere else?

Okay. I'll put something together based on your words below and push it

I like it if you have your committer hat on... yes, I would be very
thankful if you could do this. I already added a few words to
http://www.eclipse.org/epp/download.php, but this is probably not the
place where everybody expects the milestone status.

Thanks,
Markus

It'd still be nice to see a note on the website that indicates this to
the
average consumer.

FWIW, one of the reasons why Eric was invited to join the Technology PMC
is
because he primarily looks at the projects from the outside-in. If Eric
is
having troubles or concerns about this, then there's a good chance that
a
significant part of our community is also having trouble with this.

Putting my project committer hat on... would you like me to try and add
a
few words to the site describing the issue?

Hi Eric,

the communication is not that bad... ;-) Maybe you missed an important
email from January 7th that I sent to different mailing lists, such as
cross-projects, planning-council, etc. ("EPP planning update for
Galileo"):

This year we are going to change to use p2 to build the packages.
We will also be changing how the packages are defined to use the
PDE product file format. The plan is to have both these changes
done and an initial build completed by EPP M5.

Unfortunately this took longer than I expected and after going a step
into the wrong direction, I think we found a p2 way to build the
packages that is easier for us (and the package maintainers). There
are still some things to work out, but I hope to have packages
available until the end of this week.

Two questions about Galileo M5 builds:
1) what is the status? The Galileo wiki page

says they were supposed to be available more than 2 weeks ago.

2) WHY is there no information available on the EPP home page or the
wiki
about the status? That is unacceptable, especially since the EPP page
has a
link to download "milestones" but it points to the Ganymede SR2
release.

More generally, the EPP team is doing a very poor job of communicating
to
the user community. Putting my Technology PMC hat on, this is
something that
must be corrected.
