No, keep org.eclipse. You need to have the URL there at least and some recognition that this is now part of the Eclipse community of goodies.

I've been reading this discussion with amazement.
Why the heck it this so important to the eclipse guys to have it named org.eclipse.something?

Because it's is suggested that it be hosted at Eclipse.org. All projects on Eclipse.org are named eclipse.org, regardless of whether they work with an IDE of similar name or not. There are many components which have no particular relevance to an IDE yet are still hosted here.

I don't see you guys demanding from cvs, svn, or whatever else that they rename their projects to org.eclipse now do you?

That's because there are no cvs or subversion projects hosted here. However, there are clients for cvs and svn, and all of those developed at Eclipse do start with org.eclipse.

There are binaries distributed with Eclipse products which are stored in the "orbit" repository (and others). These do not start with org.eclipse. That is an option which can be weighed up by the project's committers, but since the whole point of attempting to go down the EDL route was to host the source at Eclipse.org as well, this seems a little bit moot.

my 2 cents. no offence intended.

Don't think it caused offence, and FWIW the goal of JGit is still to be an IDW neutral later for other Git clients. Also, don't take offense at the name - it's just that all source projects at Eclipse.org are in org.eclipse subpackages, much like Apache projects are org.apache.
