I'll remain sceptical. Mind you, if you ask around, that won't be surprising to anyone. :). We've had web IDEs with us for years now, Orion included, and I still don't seem much traction and clearly it's not visible in the Stack Overflow survey.
I think the biggest issue that we talked about at the architecture council meeting in Reston was your claim of Che as "The Next Generation Eclipse IDE". It's a pretty bold claim and one that goes against the grain of what so many of us in the community are working towards as we try to rebuild Eclipse's reputation.
In the end, there's clearly room for different IDE's. You claim that "I believe that in 100 years there will be 1000 IDEs and developers will have their biases." It should be clear that that's already the world we live in and have for a while. I've had so many requests over the years to support Xcode and Visual Studio and Android Studio and Qt Creator projects in Eclipse, developers are clearly looking for choice. It'll be good for our community to have Che as another choice.
