Hi,

In our group we did not move to newer Eclipse CDT for several reasons:

1.      Indexer regression (http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/cdt-dev/msg22683.html). Unfortunately I was not able to point when exactly this regression occurred. I have a link to a GIT repository but I do not know how to create a CDT feature/plug-in in order to run Eclipse with it. I would appreciate any help with this issue.

You should try to create a reproducible example of your problem that doesn't contain proprietary code. A standard technique for that is:

1. Select a source file that exhibits the problem.

2. Run it through a C preprocessor and save the result to a new source file.

3. Check that the new source file exhibits the same problem.

4. Start removing code from the file while checking that it still compiles without errors after every deletion.

5. In remaining example remove all comments and replace all names so that the code can be shown outside of your company.

6. If you don't want to attach the code to the bug, you can sent it to me directly.

[Yevgeny]: As I mentioned in this thread (http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/cdt-dev/msg22776.html), I saw regression in statistics. I did not see any major issues with indexer. For the issues I observed, I was not able to reproduce them on a small example. So I wanted to investigate this using different (more technical) approach. The problematic change was introduced between CDT 8.0 M7 and official CDT 8.0. In above link I got a reference to a GIT repository, where source of all milestones exist. I am not sure how to create a CDT feature / plugin from them. So I could test them and narrow when the problem appeared. ÂÂ

Â2.      Some colleagues that used Indigo stated that it is significantly slower in context of navigation. There were some functionality added, maybe it affected performance.

This doesn't match my experience.

3.      Sometimes Indigo Eclipse GUI becomes slow when running it on local Linux machine. Restart solves it.

The standard way of troubleshooting slowness is to capture Eclipse thread dump during an unusually long delay.

[Yevgeny]: The problem is that it is not stuck. The GUI responds in "slow motion".

It would be great if someone could refer to my questions/comments from original mail

Thanks a lot,

Yevgeny

Hi,

We have a lot of header files that have only one line in them #include "a/b/File.h". I am using Eclipse CDT 7.0.2.

Is there anything that prevents you from using a more recent version of CDT?

For some reason when one of the above files is opened (for the first time) it could take about 30 seconds till outline with one line is shown. I was wandering what does it do during this time? I would guess that parsing file with one include line should not take that long. The second time is much faster because of the cache.

BTW: Eclipse workspace and project reside on local file system. If opened "h" file resides on local file system or NFS, will it affect the time till "outline" has finished showing its elements? I am asking because above header files reside on NFS. From my testing I did not see any performance differences.

Thanks,

Yevgeny
