In case if I have several editor windows open the hover action (JDT, Source) opens the hoverd source in random (last used ?!) window. Will be better to open it in the same window.
I recall I observed the mentioned behavior, but I'm not able to reproduce the bug. Do you have a series of steps to reproduce the issue punctually ? Thanks for reporting !
I think I found the reason. I have enabled the "Closed editors automatically" and limit 8. If I use hover action and have maximum editors opened the Eclipse close one and open new editor not in the initial window (with hover action) but in the same as previously closed editor. Steps to reproduce. Enable "Closed editors automatically" Set limit to 2 Open in one window any class Open in second window any other class Ctrl-click on any type in first window The hoverd class will open second window.
I tested this use case, and I can reproduce the described behavior. As this use case is legal, I was thinking to close this bug report as worksforme. However, I noticed a similar behavior, without setting the "Close editors automatically". Therefore I'm gong to keep this bug open and assign it to me, just in case we can can reproduce the buggy behavior, without setting "Close editors auto..".
Please look at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=507576. It is not directly connected, but may help correctly resolve the case when "Closed editors automatically" is enabled too. Anyway I still think that Eclipse should open new editor by hover action in the same window even if it close another editor in another window.
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.
