Description Jeen Broekstra CLA 2015-09-22 18:23:55 EDT
This is a feature request to enable propagating error marker upward to parent projects in the Project Explorer view, when in hierarchical mode.

(see short forum discussion at https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=rview&goto=1708840#msg_1708840)

The new hierarchical project presentation in the Project Explorer is very useful for large (Maven) projects consisting of many submodules. However, if a child project contains (compilation) errors, the error marker in the Explorer is not propagated upward to the parent project folder.

This is especially problematic in larger projects where the project hierarchy is partly collapsed: errors in subprojects are hidden behind collapsed parent projects, and are therefore very easily overlooked.

I have a similar issue with the Project explorer in Photon:

"Projects presentation" -> "flat" view works fine and errors are shown with a red decorator icon on the projects. Same for Package explorer.

After switching "projects presentation" -> "hierarchical" all the decorators on the projects disappear. Not only from Maven projects with submodules, but also from single projects and the submodules themselves. Now I have to go to the problems view or expand projects where the errors are still shown on the packages.

Installed Oxygen with installer and the problem appeared with the update to Photon (Build id: 20180619-1200). Oracle JDK 1.8u181
