Description Anthony Hunter CLA 2009-08-26 15:37:36 EDT
From my test team:

Click and drag very fast in the PE, and the ghost icon gets further from the cursor.

This gets confusing if the user's eyes starts focusing on the ghost icon instead of the cursor when dropping in the target location.

I consider this highly reproducible (80% of quick drags). Here are improved steps.

STEPS:
1. Click on an element outside the project explorer. This seems to improve reproducibility.
2. In the PE, quickly (click and) drag an element quickly.

You can drag it towards the editor, or drag it to elsewhere in the PE.

The icon of the element you are moving accompanies the cursor, but not right next to it.

The faster you start your click and drag, the further the ghost icon gets.

EXPECTED RESULT:

The dragged icon should appear right next to the cursor.

I just tried this many times (Vista, 3.4.2, my RCP app) and could not make it happen. The ghost thing that was being dragged was the icon and it's text (the whole line), and it always was in the same spot relative to the where I clicked on the cursor. I tried clicking somewhere else first (in an unrelated tree) and could never make it happen.

In any case, if this is an issue, it's probably in SWT land.

Any other ideas for making this happen?

Adding Rodolfo who reported the issue was:
This can become a major annoyance to the customers as it is not clear where the element will end up, at the cursor location or at the location of the ghost element. This is a usability and consumability issue.

Well let's see of the SWT folks have seen this, this is not something the ProjectExplorer has any control over.

Could you give 3.6 M1 a try and let us know if you still see this? (It seemed OK to me there).

Still waiting to see if you are still seeing this in 3.6 M2...

This is a one-off bulk update. (The last one in the triage migration).

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
