My workspace has auto building turned off because of the large number of projects as well the use of a long running custom ant build script. When I do trigger a build manually I'd like to be able to switch away from Eclipse and still be aware when the build has been completed. This would ideally be done with an audio alert (being able to select a wav or mp3 file to play on build success, and another on build failure). Failing that, a bring window to top event would work on my linux and windows environments.
There is currently a sound project in the platform-ui incubator. We will investigate moving this support to the themes engine in the workbench. At the very least it will be available from the UI update site (http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/platform-ui/updates/)

No time to move beyond incubation in 3.4
Nice idea. It would also be good to be able to differentiate between a succeeded build and a failed build using different sounds.
Susan is now responsible for watching the [Themes] category.
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
