Re: [ee4j-pmc] [External] : Re: Approval for creation of Eclipse Documentation for Jakarta EE is needed

I'm okay with creating the project.
The licensing of the different artifacts and repositories can be worked out later. The original licenses should be kept, and dual licensing should be avoided for the repositories.

Is that okay with you, Ed?

Thanks both!

This email request is for creation of Eclipse Documentation for Jakarta EE only that will host Jakarta EE Tutorial repository with with Eclipse Public License 2.0.

Other issues will be discussed in a separate email, information was provided for the context only.

Please approve creation of Eclipse Documentation for Jakarta EE.

Thanks,

Tanja

My ask for PMC is to approve creation of Eclipse Documentation for Jakarta EE so we can finalize the project creation.

Isn't it the intention to keep the licenses as they are for the different repositories? I agree with Ed that dual licensing would be a tad much for examples.
The project can manage repositories that have different licenses.

The license listed on the PMI page is BSD Zero which removes clauses that were required under the original contribution license, EDL. Is the goal to dual-license all the content? If so, what would the point be since any user would almost certainly opt for the zero clause option. I'd previously objected to changing the license of material that was contributed by Oracle. If new content were to be generated under BSD Zero, that would be okay with us, but monitoring this could become challenging.

Dear PMC,

as you may be aware Jakarta EE Platform specification project since its creation, contained Jakarta EE Tutorial repository as well as Jakarta EE Tutorial Examples repository .

It has been discussed and agreed on within Jakarta EE Plaform call, Specification CMTE call, also at the Marketing call, that this needs to be changed, as the Tutorial and the Tutorial Examples are not specifications and do not need to follow JESP as process for its development.

As Eclipse Examples for Jakarta EE is an existing project all we needed to do is to move the Jakarta EE Tutorial Examples repository to this project. This part has been done, please see
https://github.com/eclipse-ee4j/jakartaee-examples/tree/main/tutorial

The license (EDL v1.0, BSD-3-Clause) of this project is adequate already for the examples so I believe  no change is being requested or needed.

There is a need for creation of the new project that will host Jakarta EE Tutorial repository. The proposal for Eclipse Documentation for Jakarta EE has been created to do so with Eclipse Public License 2.0.

My ask for PMC is to approve creation of Eclipse Documentation for Jakarta EE so we can finalize the project creation.

Thanks,

Tanja
