Re: [stp-dev] 3.4 Release Build candidate available

Hi Padraig,

I have to seriously doubt the value of STP in Ganymede at the moment., I've looked at Ganymede from a developer and don't think it is near ready for production in STP and in other areas.

I think it may be the case that STP is more heavy on the framework side
of things, as it is being picked up and used by a number of organizations
that base products on parts of it. Eclipse projects are there to provide
value to companies that want to share common platform elements of their
tools, as well as for individual developers. Because the code is contributed
by companies usually, it's no surprise that there's a bit of a bias in
that direction.

That being said, we're always open to detailed feedback that can help
us address issues that are bothering people. Even better, roadmap feedback
is very valuable. What's are the pieces that interest you most? What
has the highest potential for value for you?

Over the last while since RC1/2 I have tried installing the STP plugins to explore the functionality in STP with (little)/ no success. So far, I have never been able to download/use the STP tools sucessfully in/into Ganymede.

The newsgroup and this mailing list are here for questions and
cries for help. These queries can lead to bugs registered, which
will in turn lead to fixes and hopefully a better experience.
Alternatively, you can dive right in and log a bug in bugzilla
explaining the issues that you are having. There's an
irc channel #eclipse-stp hosted on the irc.freenode.net too if
that is more convenient (although there are less eyes there than
there are on stp-dev).

Aparty from STP I think Ganymede has too many P1 issues for general release.

This is a concern you should seriously think about sending into the
foundation itself, or perhaps someone like Bjorn [0], who is one of the
driving forces in the organization. Feedback like this is important
to them

 best regards
   Oisin
