Re: [sapphire-dev] Sapphire Diagram UI Usability

That's great to hear. I will try to schedule this for the 0.4 release.

That timing would actually work out. The first version of the Sapphire-based tooling wouldn't show up until November 2011 at the earliest, which would be around the time of the Indigo SR1 release.

As for securing approval, that's not a problem. We just need to make sure we have a consistent update site to grab the sapphire plug-ins from for our build process and we should be good to go. It's just another Eclipse-supported framework to add to the mix in our eyes, so that's the easy part. And quite honestly the speed with which I was able to get the basic XML editor part of things up and running is a strong selling point.

So yes, these features will be used. I'm not just barking up the tree for no good reason. :)

At this point it seems unlikely that nested diagrams will make it in for 0.3 release in June, but there is always the 0.4 release and my goal is to have quarterly releases going forward... So my guess is that 0.4 is sometime around Indigo SR1.

Have you made progress on getting the approval to move forward with your Sapphire-based editor? I am more likely to schedule time to work on a major enhancement like nested diagrams if I feel confident that the feature will get used.

Hey Konstantin,

Will anything happen with the nested diagram enhancement (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=342312) as far as this round of diagram work?

It is getting close to the point where will need to focus on polishing the usability of the new Sapphire Diagram UI facility. I have taken the first pass at recording the items that I have noticed.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?keywords=usability;query_format=advanced;keywords_type=allwords;short_desc=[diagram];bug_status=UNCONFIRMED;bug_status=NEW;bug_status=ASSIGNED;bug_status=REOPENED;short_desc_type=allwordssubstr;classification=Technology;product=Sapphire

Anyone should feel free to comment on these or add to the list. To appear in this query, the bug should have “[diagram]” prefix in the summary and have “usability” keyword.

Thanks,

- Konstantin
