Re: [ptp-user] Problem Installing PTP in Eclipse

Hi William,

Glad to see you were able to get PTP to work finally. We're still not sure what is causing this problem as it is very difficult to reproduce consistently. Also, with the new Europa release coming out at the end of the month, the problem may already have been fixed. We'll make sure it's addressed for the PTP 2.0 release towards the end of the year.

Can you see PTP plugin in "product configuration"?
Click on menu "Help" -> "Software updates" -> "Manage Configuration".
And then enable "Show disabled features". Does ptp show on this
configuration windows? What is its status (enable/disable)?

yikes. it does show and it is disabled. so i just enabled it.

i can now see the additional OpenMPI and MPI menu items and buttons.
However, i don't see the PTP debugger perspective. going back to the
software manager. Eclipse Parallel Tools ... is still disabled. so i
enabled it again.

then i can see the PTP Runtime and PTP Debug perspective already. yipee!
so now, i can start testing it. both perspectives load properly.

may i ask why i had to enable this manually and why i had to do it
twice?

thanks for the help!

I am not sure the exactly reason why some plugins will be disabled ptp.
One of users reported ptp plugin is disabled after installed other
plugins (pydev and RDT), but I don't get this problem when I tried
installed both plugins. It is a very strange case.

At least one other user has reported that installing other plugins (via the
software updates I think)
seems to have made parts of PTP disappear. You said you installed 'xmlto'. I have logged a bug with the Eclipse platform on this but haven't heard
anything.
I think it also had something to do with whether eclipse was launched
between the installs or not.
You might try installing PTP *after* installing xmlto.
Sorry, and hopefully this will be resolved soon.

hello guys,

i tried installing PTP following the instructions provided in:
http://www.eclipse.org/ptp/docs/releases/release-1.1.php

i downloaded the plug-ins from:
http://www.eclipse.org/ptp/downloads.php

the 'sh ./BUILD' in eclipse/org.eclipse.ptp.linux.x86/ built with no
problem. i also installed xmlto when it raised a warning.

i got the following errors after running eclipse with the '-debug
-consolelog -clean' flags:

!SUBENTRY 1 org.eclipse.osgi 2 0 2007-06-24 19:35:12.107
!MESSAGE Bundle update@plugins/org.eclipse.ptp.linux.ppc/ [594] was not

i checked the directory and there is no org.eclipse.ptp.core_1.1.0.jar and not a org.eclipse.ptp.core_1.0.0.jar. am i missing something here? maybe the debugger is being linked to the wrong version of PTP core?

i also checked-out the mailing list archives and couldn't find a similar
problem.

here are some other details that maybe helpful:

Eclipse Version: 3.2.2 Build id: M20070212-1330
cdt_3.1.2.200702150621
java version "1.5.0_11"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_11-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_11-b03, mixed mode, sharing)
openmpi-1.2.3-1 (i can build and run MPI program the usual way)
Fedora Core 6

thank you in advance for you help.
