Currently the monitor-data element is only used to select the monitoring backend. We've made some enhancements that make it easier to drop in new backends, but there is still no way to do this from the XML configuration. I think it would be relatively easy to add the path to LML_DA_Driver.pl as an option in the monitor-data section so you could switch it out completely. Whatever you replaced it with would need to generate correct LML of course. If you wanted to provide a patch that would allow this, I'd be happy to consider it for Juno.
