He probably meant you could branch the
current maintenance branches and accept the changes now. I don't see any
benefit in this except more work for us. We can simply wait a few days
until RC4 is declared (this Friday) and then put them into the appropriate
maintenance branches. In case of an emergency (build) for SR1 after RC4
we could handle such a case in a separate branch. But at any rate, I don't
see why we don't first make this stuff work on 'master' and only then target
the maintenance streams (see my other reply).

Paul, I assume you mean it will replace
it in the future when CBI works fine and we can do the switch, right? What
happens to 'repositories.txt'?

off of the appropriate R3_8_maintenance or R4_2_maintenance)
?

After consulting with the Eclipse Foundation, we're going to merge in the
CBI Platform build work.  This is the start of a Code Sprint to get
the build up and running on maven/tycho over the next week or so.  We
want to get this up and it is time to move fairly aggressively.  We
want to be running PDE build and CBI builds in parallel from our regular
git repos going forward, so we can confirm the build parity.

Starting Wednesday, we're going to move the platform aggregator repository
over to Platform/Releng.  It controls the building of eclipse.  It
will also replace the map files repo to control build input.

Then we need the component leads to work with us to accept the changes
on the following bugs.  Important:  These are going into the
appropriate 3.8.2/4.2.2 stream, but make no commits in the actual maintenance
streams until we confirm we've shipped 3.8.1/4.2.1.
 We'll post on the mailing lists and in the root bug when we can go
ahead and merge them into maintenance.  In the mean time, you can
go ahead and accept these changes into topic branches (based off of the
appropriate R3_8_maintenance or R4_2_maintenance) now so they are good
to go.
