Re: [phoenix-dev] Testing Matrix

Here's what I think:

+1 for your browser list. Seems to cover all the bases.

+1 for the 1024 rule.

+1 for the 800x600 rule.  It must be functional, but we accept that some visual glitches may occur.

I think for the DPI setting we could approach the same philosophy as the 800x600 rule: as long as the page is functional.

The only way we can render a perfect page on every imaginable browser/DPI/resolution combo would be to do like most sites, and have absolute values for everything and limiting the view area to 760 pixels, wasting much screen space.

What about testing DPI settings, or am I the only person in the world with non-default DPI settings?

Subject: [phoenix-dev] Testing Matrix

Committers,

There’s been some talk lately of developing a Test Matrix for use when testing changes to the website to make sure that certain resolutions and browsers display the pages properly.  Here is a draft of the matrix.

Browser List

Firefox 1.5

Firefox 2.0

Internet Explorer 6

Internet Explorer 7

Opera 9

Safari 3

Screen Resolutions

1024x768 (Must Display Properly)

As for 800x600 resolutions, I think that there need to be some concessions here that the pages are readable, but don’t necessarily have to display everything perfectly.   If this was still the year 2000 I’d say we need to take 800x600 into account.
