Re: [phoenix-dev] Homepage Prototypes

Thanks for your feedback, Nick.

Indeed, a link from the homepage screenshot to a Screenshots page would be useful.

Wayne is currently working on a screenshots page - https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=12669

I agree - the new prototypes are nice. Not sure which I prefer, but I like
the layout and pillar/role idea. As to the screenshot... a couple ideas for
your consideration:

a) animate it to cycle through a series of images showing a few snapshots
(no more than 3)
b) link it to a wiki/static page with larger versions and perhaps even
explanatory captions/download links. Could also be useful to show snaps of
the pillars/roles in action.

Oh, and I'm not yet a developer on Phoenix, just a lurker/bug-opener, so
feel free to ignore me. ;-)

Cheers,

Nathan,

These look real good. Here are some thoughts:

- I agree with Mike that the screenshots are small, but I disagree that
they aren't useful. Can we have only one screenshot, but bigger? Perhaps
one screenshot that is the height of both combined?

- I sort of prefer the Roles page, as it contains fewer choices.
However, it leads to more clicks.

Thanks,

Denis

Hi Nathan,
My two cents (keeping in mind I have no homepage design expertise) ;-)...

Overall, I like the clean look. Navigation is much improved.

I feel that there's a lack of visibility/navigation for EPIC on both
prototypes. I'd like to see it as easy to get to as the download.

I really like both sets of roles. Ideally there would be a way to make
them all visible on the homepage, retaining their individual
organizational integrity.

The EPIC survey indicates a strong desire for direct access to "eclipse
stuff", but less interest in "news stuff"...maybe we should take that
into account for the homepage.

The double screenshot on both samples seems like wasted space, too small
to really be useful, not flashy enough to be really visually
interesting...put the EPIC button there ;-)

Good Afternoon Phoenix committers,

I've been banging away on the new prototypes for the www.eclipse.org
<http://www.eclipse.org/> homepage and have produced two version for
your feedback.

This is the Pillars / Zones / Tracks / Communities implementation
http://phoenix.eclipse.org/homepage/

And this is the Roles implementation
http://phoenix.eclipse.org/homepage/roles.php

At this point we need to decide which of these versions we will move
forward with.

Please reply to the list with any feedback / suggestions / ideas you
may have.
