BACKGROUND
Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) is an initiative proposed by the Object Management Group (OMG) for platform-generic software development. It promotes the use of models in the specification, design, analysis, synthesis, deployment, and evolution of complex software systems.
ECMDA is dedicated to furthering the state of knowledge and fostering the industrialisation of the MDA methodology. Its focus is on engaging the key key figures of European research and industry in a dialogue which will result in a stronger, more efficient industry, producing more reliable software on the basis of state-of-the-art research results. The 2008 conference is organised in two tracks of interest dealing with the foundations and applications of MDA. Experience Reports on MDA tools and their applications are welcomed. There will be additional workshops, tools and poster exhibitions on these subjects.

TOPICS
ECMDA has two separate paper tracks, one for research papers (Track F) and one for industrial papers (Track A). Each track will be judged differently. The academic track will be reviewed using common academic review guidelines. Papers in the industrial track may be shorter and will be judged against special guidelines, as described.
- Research Papers on Foundations of MDA (Academic Track)
In this track, we are soliciting papers presenting original research on all aspects of MDA. Typical but not exclusive topics of interest are:
* Metamodelling - foundations and tools
* Model Transformation - languages and tools
* Reasoning about Models
* Model Navigation
* Model Synchronization and Consistency
* Modeling of Requirements, Architectures, Platforms
* Reverse Engineering
* Modeling for Testing and Validation
* Model Execution and Simulation
* Modeling of Service Qualities and of Security
* Aspect Modeling
* Software Process Modelling, Enactment and Execution
The research papers should be between 12 and 16 pages long, in A4 size along the LNCS article style and uploaded as PDF. They will be judged on novelty and theoretical contribution. No simultaneous submission to other publication outlets (either a conference or a journal) is allowed. The proceedings are planned to be published in a Springer LNCS volume.
- Industrial Papers on Applications of MDA (Industrial Track)
In this track, we are soliciting papers representing the views and experiences of industrial players in MDA and of MDA users. In particular, we are looking for papers that set requirements on the foundations, methods and tools for MDA. We are also seeking for experience reports or case studies on the application, successes or current shortcomings of MDA. Quantified data are appreciated. Industrial papers on all application areas of MDA are welcomed and may focus e.g. on one of the following:
* MDA for Complex Systems and Systems of Systems
* MDA for Embedded Systems and Real-Time Systems
* MDA for High-Integrity Systems, Safety-Critical, and Security-Critical Systems
* MDA in the Automotive, Aerospace, Telecommunications, Electronics Industries
* Comparative Studies of MDA Methods and Tools
* MDA Technology Adoption, Development and Roll-Out Processes
* Metrics for MDA Development
* MDA Training
* MDA for Legacy Systems
* MDA for Systems Engineering
* Model Verification and Quality-Driven System Development
* MDA and Multi-Domain Modelling Languages
* MDA and Component-Based Software Engineering
* MDA and Service Oriented Architectures
* MDA and Business Process Modelling
The length of an industrial paper should be between 6 and 12 pages. Industrial papers will be judged on practical feasibility, maturity, and industrial relevance. No simultaneous submission to other publication outlets (conference or journal) is allowed. The proceedings will be published in the same Springer LNCS volume as the proceedings of the Foundations track.
PAPER SUBMISSION
Paper submissions should be made through the electronic submission system at http://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=5814. For submission and acceptance dates, see Important Dates.
Papers must report previously unpublished work and not be submitted concurrently to another conference with refereed proceedings. Accepted papers must be presented at the conference by one of the authors.
The proceedings of ECMDA'08 are scheduled to be published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series of Springer-Verlag. All paper submissions should be in the LNCS format (see http://www.springer.com/dal/home/computer/lncs?SGWID=1-164-2-72376-0)
CALL FOR WORKSHOPS
Researchers and practitioners interested in organising a satellite workshop in the context of ECMDA 2008 are invited to submit proposals on topics related to the conference.
The purpose of the workshops is to provide participants with a forum for presenting novel ideas, and to discuss them in an open and interactive atmosphere. Responsibility for the format and organisation of each workshop rests with the submitters of the workshop proposal, but the ECMDA conference organisers will provide rooms, audio-visual equipment, and other logistical support. The workshop proposals will be selected by the workshop chair, with the advice of the ECMDA steering committee.
- Workshop Applications
Electronic submissions in PDF are to be sent to the workshops chair: ecmda2008-workshops@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Proposals should include:
* The name and the duration (half a day, one day, or two days) of the proposed workshop
* A statement of the workshop goals
* A short scientific summary of the topic, including a discussion on the relationship with the ECMDA topics
* A description of past versions of the workshop (if any), including, where possible, dates, organisers, submission and acceptance counts, and attendance
* Procedures for selecting participants and papers, and expected number of participants
* Plans for dissemination (for example, published proceedings or special issues of journals)

VENUE
The conference will be held in Berlin, German capital, located at the heart of Europe. With about 3,400,000 inhabitants, The German capital Berlin is the largest city in Germany. In the middle of the Brandenburg region, the city occupies the flatlands on the banks of the Spree, Havel and Dahme rivers and is criss-crossed with numerous canals. Berlin unites culture, nature and history, has more than 170 museums and more than 2,500 public recreational and green spaces. Berlin is very close to the historically important city of Potsdam with the famous palace Sanssouci.
