There is a section for sample traces on
http://lttng.org/download
completely at the bottom. There is only one so far...

That's correct, it's meant to show the event density, and the x-axis
represents time. The "histogram" nomenclature originally came from LTTV,
and we've reused it since.

I'm incidentally working on a new implementation that uses a SWTChart
histogram as backend, so it technically is a histogram ;)  The bar width
will also be configurable, I'm thinking of using a default width of 3
pixels instead of 1, it should reduce the jitter a bit.
