FWIW autotools also works for me on MacOSX 10.6, and I have changelog
there as well. Had an issue with not being able to autodetect the binary
after a build, but that was relatively minor.

I agree that things which will not work on non-Linux platforms should
be Linux-only, and things which might work (with some fiddling) 
should be allowed :)
