[linuxtools-dev] New SystemTap contribution

Hi,

Charley and Roland (CC'd) are working with us at Red Hat as interns.
They have created some visualization plugins that make use of custom
SystemTap scripts. This is similar to Anithra & Co.'s work but their
focus so far has been on local users (ie. no fancy remote capabilities).

For their visualization work, Roland & Charley have been experimenting
with GEF's Zest framework [1]. The results are very promising.

The work that they have done was done right from the beginning with the
intention of it becoming a part of our project. They submitted the code
and the Eclipse legal team turned around the CQ _very_ fast. I've
checked into SVN the legal-approved contribution. Charley & Roland will
have to be nominated as committers to continue this work in our SVN
repo. Obviously this will not be in our automated builds or releases
until it is ready. The bug with the source attached is:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=286422

There is a lot of work to be done still, and a lot of integration
considerations to deal with the existing SystemTap plugins. We can work
these out on the mailing list and via bugzilla. I think the combination
of this work with the existing SystemTap plugins we have will be very
well-received by users.

Roland and Charley are looking forward to becoming a part of our
community and project and to working with all of us, especially Anithra
and Phil. I'll let them respond with a brief introduction to their
work. Welcome!

Thanks,

Andrew
