Re: AW: AW: AW: AW: [jwt-dev] Why use JWT

I know, work in progress... I'll try to let them target "similar" pages until they are written

Yeah, it rocks! :)

just a small problem I encountered: The two links in the welcome text next
to the WE image don't seem to work yet.

Hi Florian

Actually, I'm trying many different things, so I can't commit all
variations, but OK, I'll do it !

Hi all,

I like the changes that you've made, Marc, as well as the improvement
ideas
from Chris. Why don't you simply upload the newest webpages to the
CVS, so
we can see your changes "live"? Even if there are still some errors,
the web
site does not take that long (mostly only a few seconds, only
sometimes up
to thirty minutes) to actualize.

Then we could have a much better collaborative process for improving
our
website.

Best regards,

Florian

Hi Chris

Good points.

Actually I think it's important that "Getting started" is the first
and
biggest thing the user sees on the page. I like very much the "New to
JWT"
section but it's too small and uncentered for this. But I'm still
thnking
about it...

N&N has gone in the extensive version of the upload page. But like
you say
putting a like to the latest version's N&N on the front page could be
a good
move, maybe after "Download (update site)" in the Getting started
section ?
Finally your 2 points : if you're talking about the left panel,
you're
right, I've not yet edited this part.
The main page has already the "Download" and update site links under
the
first title.

Marc

Hi Marc,

ok, then lets keep it the way it is. With the easily accessible
navigation on the left hand side I guess this makes very much sense.
Since there are already "Getting started" and "New to JWT" on the
sides maybe we could even leave out the getting started section in
the
middle altogether to prevent redundancy? Is the "News&Noteworthy"
page
already accessible from the main page? (I can't seem to find it on
your screenshot)

Just two small notes I would like to hear your opinion about:

- maybe we should switch community and resources on the main page
because I guess most people will be looking for the downloads first
- For the same reason I would suggest to move the Eclipse Update
site
link to the top of the project resources

Chris

Hi Chris

Thanks for backing it up !

However, I beg to differ about the "Components" : I'd rather put
the
demo movie in Getting started, because it gives an idea of what is
JWT very quickly and without having to drill much. I think that
"Components"
is rather an overview of JWT features and therefore better under
Documentation.

I'm also making good use of "New and noteworthy", removing unused
pages, trying to find a better place for all releases / roadmap /
project plan...

Marc

Hi Marc,

In my website refactoring, I've put it in "New to JWT", but
anyway
this

is a great page and should be used so.

Great, I like that. Makes definitely more sense than for new users
to "Report a bug".

Maybe it should also be merged with the current FAQ, so it would

have

several sections : Why use JWT, What is JWT, How to install it...

Also a very good idea. It will prevent cluttering of the Wiki. I'm
in

favor

of this.

In attachment my current ongoing efforts, feedback welcome !

Cool, nice work on the download page! I think with this we can get

rid of

the download page in the wiki?
My suggestion would be to move the overview of JWT's components
from
the

documentation to the "Getting started" entry (right at the top)

because it's

quite high-level and probably something very interesting at the

beginning

for a new user.

Chris

Hi all,

I just remembered that we still have this wiki page lying around
dealing with why users should decide to use JWT instead of other
BP solutions (http://wiki.eclipse.org/Why_use_JWT). I thought
maybe

it’s

time to link it from somewhere on the main page (on the left
side
under “Getting started” ?). Would you think this is already the

right

time or should we wait and expand this article a bit?

Regards,

Chris
