as far as i seem to remember (you see how concrete my affirmation is  ;-)  
ELFI also uses the GFAL libs (they couldn't do that if running as a real 
fs on kernel-mode).

IMHO the only reasonable way out is to understand the protocol from the C 
command line tools, we just need a bit of time.
