Tim,
The EMO position is understandable and thus I was a bit confused when
the project was announced as: "... The Eclipse
Foundation intends to use the exemplary implementation at eclipse.org
to create a better user and member experience for downloads."
I'm not seeing the confusion, but then I'm probably just so confused
that I don't know that I'm confused :-)
The Foundation does intend to use the exemplary implementation at
eclipse.org, but there is no guarantee that we will and the decision as
to whether we will is the Foundation's to make, not the EPP project's
to make.
When I read the statement above, it led me to believe that EMO had
already decided to roll out the technology as the way for Eclipse
users to download software from Eclipse.org.
We have conditionally already decided, i.e., if this stuff works the
way it is planned to work, then we'll probably use it. But (and I keep
saying this :-), it's not guaranteed. For example, we don't even
require Eclipse Foundation staff to use Eclipse as a development
environment - we all do, of course, but only because the tools are so
good.
Cheers,
Bjorn
