Re: [epf-dev] Jump-start OpenUP projects with ProjectKoach - a free project management tool
|
Hi Bjorn
I have just started to look at ProjectKoach and it looks really - well -
Good :-)
It's both exciting and gratifying to see the tools market growing around
OpenUP and EPF.
I have a couple of comments on what I have seen so far. I have to stress
that I have only just started to look at this so there may already be
features which answer my questions that I have not yet seen.
Firstly, the default view for projects using the OpenUP template presents
the Use Case Model as the initial entry under the Project Input tab. In
OpenUP, we drive the project with a Work Items List (which should include
the fulfilment of use cases but can include other things too). Having the
list of use cases presented like this is helpful but I wonder if the
primary entry for Project Input in ProjectKoach should be the Work Items
List when using the OpenUP template. See the attached screen shot for an
idea of what I mean.
(See attached file: projectKoach.JPG)
Second, I see the tool allows me to define a project template from an
existing PK project, which is great as it lets me re-use stuff. I wonder if
the tool can also generate a project template file by reading EPF Composer
metadata? This would me to quickly populate the Iterations, Tasks and
Solutions panes with info from OpenUP, OpenUP/DSDM Scrum and XP EPF
plugins.
I look forward to getting to know this product more. We should probably
take our discussion about my questions on ProjectKoach features outside
epf-dev but I just wanted to send in my appreciation for the work you have
done here. It looks great.
thanks

Hi all,
Congratulations to everybody involved in the development of EPF and thanks
for a great software process product!
GOOD Software is taking strides towards enabling our tools to support
OpenUP and EPF integration, and I wanted to share with the EPF community
our way of trying to bring OpenUP to software projects.
We have just released ProjectKoach 2007.2, which is the first version
exclusively targeted for OpenUP projects.
ProjectKoach is a good fit for OpenUP projects in general and provides
out-of-the-box support for the project’s Work Items List and Iteration
Plans.
In addition, this new release also features OpenUP project templates and is
bundled with an OpenUP configuration tailored with tool mentors for the
management tasks, which makes “following OpenUP” straight-forward.
With ProjectKoach, creating an OpenUP project is a simple matter of
selecting a suitable project template. Once created, the Smart Process
feature provides active context-based guidance to planning the project’s
iterations and tasks.
There is a white paper that describes how ProjectKoach supports OpenUP in
more detail at
www.projectkoach.com/papers/ProjectKoachOpenUP_whitepaper.pdf
ProjectKoach is absolutely *free* for unlimited use, and can be downloaded
at www.projectkoach.com
