Re: [e4-dev] Feature for Forward Compat Layer

Hi all,
If i understand Tom's proposal correctly, to me it certainly seems reasonable to have a feature, which once downloaded, enables e4 apps to run on 3.x. Paul's proposal also makes sense, but i think dealing with separate bundles is more complicated for an adopter once you are outside the world of the p2 and don't have the category data (if there is such a usecase). Also, such a proposed feature can be declared to be only installable in a 3.x environment, i.e. explicitly state it is The forward compat feature.
Just my uneducated opinion.

Cheers, Dimitar

My question is whether we could probably provide a special feature (as I
understand this makes up the different categories in the p2-repo - sorry
if I'm wrong here).

Another options would be to create a category for just the bundles.  That would allow them to install easily and they would show up in Install UI, but would probably not display them in the Help>About>Installation Details p2 page.
