Re: [e4-dev] e4 Market Place

Sorry I am late joining this e-mail thread; just coming back from vacation.

I agree creating a new marketplace for Eclipse 4.0 is creating to much of a line.  In fact I would hesitate to create a special category for the same reason.  Over time I would hope that ALL things listed on Marketplace will support Eclipse 4.x.

I would suggest we use the version field that Konstantin mentions and a tag.   Unfortunately the version field is a text field so it doesn't allow us to do a lot of filtering.  The tags will allow end users to do filtering.

The downside to this approach is that the end-user needs to know to search for the Eclipse 4.0 tag.   I realize time is short but to address Kai's initial idea of making it easy to find certain Eclipse 4.0 tools and demos there are two options I would suggest:

1) Someone creates an Eclipse 4.0 Starter Wizard using the P2 Discovery UI.  This would be a wizard that lists interesting tools and demos.  Similar to what the Subversive or Mylyn project does.

2) If the Eclipse 4.0 contains the MPC, someone could change the client string in the api to indicate that the requestor is the Eclipse 4.0 client.   We could add logic to the Marketplace Server to highlight solution listings with the Eclipse 4.0 tag.

Be happy to work with anyone that wants to take the next steps on this.

Ian

FYI… Marketplace listings have a version field for specifying compatibility with the major “eclipse version”. It could be used in this case as well rather than utilizing a tag.

There is a bug open to pre-filter in the marketplace client based on the version of the requester…

Actually, that’s what I meant. I just find the market place client very convenient.

I would hesitate to create a distinct e4 marketplace as it appears to draw too dark a line between things.  an e4 tag or category in the normal eclipse marketplace would be great imho.

Does it make sense to have an "e4" category in the real eclipse marketplace?

[e4-dev] e4 Market Place

Hi All,

I was just thinking about the idea of having kind of e4 market place to make it easier for beginners to get started with the Eclipse 4.0 SDK. I was thinking about:

- tooling (Tom's model editor, wizards, etc.)
- demos, examples, best practices

I actually like the Helios market place client a lot.

What do you think?

Kai
