Re: [cosmos-dev] Images & Icons

The current Icons that are used with the COSMOSUI are taken from other eclipse projects.

IBM has an internal repository that lets me view and search for eclipse icons.

Martin, if you need a certain icon I can try to find one for you.

Thanks,

Sheldon

Re: [cosmos-dev] Images & Icons

I suspect that we need IPZilla approval for any icons that we did not create because we'll have to give credit to whoever created the icon or abide by the terms of its license. I don't know how we need to package third-party icons, though; the issue is whether or not we would need to redistribute a license file in the same directory as the icon.

Martin, I'll forward your post to Eclipse Legal asking this question and will cc you on the email. I'll cc you as well, David, since you've replied as well.

GPL raises a red flag there.  We can't include anything that isn't EPL,
at least not without approval from the IPZilla folks.  Any icons you use
from the Tango base icon theme will have to go through the IPZilla
process if you did not create them yourself.

It's always good to base icons off similar metaphors.  Think about
whether the concept you're representing is similar to one already used
elsewhere in Eclipse, and create an icon that is a variation of it.
Here's a good blog post on icon use in Eclipse:

Here's an interesting proposal for an Eclipse icon exchange:

Ruth might have more to add from her TPTP experience.
