[cdt-dev] Refactoring

Hi,

I intended to give you an update on refactoring during the monthly call, but missed yesterdays meeting. Here is what I wanted to share with you:

 

Early this year I visited Peter Sommerlad and his team at the University of Rappersvil (HSR). They provide a plugin for C++-refactoring based on CDT. We have been discussing the prerequisites for making this

part of CDT.

 

As a result we came up with a proposal for providing a common facility to rewrite AST, which

is discussed here: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=214334 . The implementation of the rewriter will be a contribution by HSR (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=214605)

 

HSR will also port their refactorings to this architecture (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=181493)

 

The goal is to have a patch for the rewriter and for at least a few refactorings by end of February. Because this is a significant contribution, we then still need to go through the IP-review process. After we have achieved this, it will be easier for anyone to contribute additional refactorings.
