So would you say that a general packaging framework, with an RPM plugin as a
proof-of-concept would be more in line with the current approach?
Except for RPMs, I could imagine that people want to create other kinds of
packages as well, like Debian packages, tarballs, Windows installers etc.

Rather than a binary-only distribution, we would really like
to see the
RPM and Oprofile plug-in sources hosted as a part of (or
alongside) the
CDT on eclipse.org, where all development would be done in the open.
I'd like to open up some discussion on how we can achieve this.
