I got some time to try out the Linux installer again on a Sun 131JVM and an IBM 140 JVM. In both cases the splash screen was correctly sized. This looks then like a bug in the IBM 131 JVM for Linux implementation. In addition to documenting this for 1.1 final I'll raise the matter with the IBM 131 service folks.
