Description Douglas Pollock CLA 2005-06-06 12:42:28 EDT
N20050606-0010, GTK+ 2.6.4, KDE 3.3.2, X.org 6.8.2, Linux 2.6.11

The progress view has a preference dialog reachable from the view menu. This
dialog only contains one preference. It would be more consistent with other
views for this preference to be controlled via a check box menu item in the view
menu.
Comment 1 Tod Creasey CLA 2005-06-06 12:58:45 EDT
It was there as a proof of concept for view preferences. More will be coming
when I get a chance to work on it again.
Comment 2 Douglas Pollock CLA 2005-06-06 13:11:42 EDT
This was introduced in 3.0, and it seems unlikely that more preferences will be
added to this view in 3.1. I would recommend switching to a menu-controlled
preference for 3.1, to fall more inline with current best practices outlined in
the Eclipse User Interface Guidelines
("http://www.eclipse.org/articles/Article-UI-Guidelines/Contents.html") and
highlighted in Bug 98234 comment #3.

We are the user interface team, and people look to us for examples.
Comment 3 Tod Creasey CLA 2005-06-06 13:17:22 EDT
And this our example of a view based preference. No one else used one and we
didn't have another candidate so we chose this one to ship.
Comment 4 Markus Keller CLA 2006-01-17 14:10:43 EST
I agree with comment 2. As a user, I am not interested in a proof of concept for view preferences.

Other examples for view-based preferences can be found in the Variables and in the Synchronize view.
