I20050509-2010 MacOS X The 'New' wizard page opens without a description in the dialog header and the layout is fine. When one of the New Wizards is selected a description is added in the header and everthing below that label moves down due to the new layout, which is distracting. Another problem with this is that after the description was added the dialog icon in the upper-right corner is no longer adjacent to the bottom border of the dialog header, which leaves a blank space between the icons shade and the rest of the dialog. This is also the case on Windows XP.

Removing the MaxOS X tags as the essential problem is also present on Windows XP (see second paragraph of comment 0).
Did you open the new wizard from the menu or toolbar (or somewhere else)? When I open the new wizard using the File>New>Other menu or using the toolbar item I get the new wizard with the first item in the list (Java class) already selected. Using I20051025
Unfortunately I no longer have MacOS X available. I think there was no selection on MacOS X independent from where I opened the wizard.
I just checked on a Mac machine here and there is no initial selection (unlike on my Win2K machine) when the new dialog is used for the first time. However when I selected the java class wizard the layout didn't change. I was using 3.2 build I20051101 so I suppose alot could have changed since this was first reported. I will try to get one other Mac user to independently confirm the current behavior.
I am using 3.2 M3 on a Mac and there is indeed no initial selection in the new wizard. Not sure if this is the case for XP as mentioned in the original comment, or if this is just a Mac issue (I suspect the latter).
Oops, my last comment was incorrect. The problem is repeatable in 3.1.1 but NOT in 3.2 M3
Resolving as worksforme since it is not a problem in 3.2 and there are no further releases planned on the 3.1.x stream.
I just discovered that this behavior still exists on linux-gtk using 3.2

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
