Using build 2002-02-05 with the new team support for CVS. In the old vcm support, there was a synchronize perspective. In the new team support, that perspective is gone. I know some people have pushed for this but... The sync view is a view, not an editor, so it will open as a fast view (until you pin it somewhere). The view really needs to be fairly big to be useful, so pin it down is not an attractive idea as it will take up lots of space (unless you make it small, and zoom it when actually using the sync view). If you want to see the resource history in the history view, then the problem gets worst. I have yet to find a layout where I can see both views at the same time (course, I've only been using the new team stuff for 3-4 days now...maybe with time I will). Having a new sync perspective open each time does have advantages. There is plenty of space of the 2-3 views I need to work with. I can sync one project, then in the middle, sync with another project (opening a new sync perspective) to check if changes in that project have been released also. Of course, there is the down side that a sync perspective is opened each time, requiring the user to close it (probably less annoying that reusing the perspective for another project sync when the user was not done with it yet). I know at the UI plugin, we are looking into this whole perspective/page/window/reuse/etc issues and have come up with some ideas but are still not quite there yet.
I am tempted to reassign the PR to desktop because our only choice for large views is perspectives :) Sync doesn't warrant its own perspective. Having a history prespective may make sense though.
I agree, the ui team should help with this problem. We need to come up with some guidelines on how to best display views that are huge (I'm sure other plug- ins will run into this problem).
post 2.0 - we have thoughts on what a sync perspective could be but no time at present
