I'm opening this bug to gather feedback and community patches for the presentation examples plugin. Will close this when interest dies down.
Hi Jean-Michel, your plugin is a very good extension for platform presentation. Did you / your manager have any plans to release it as "official" part of Eclipse? Of course, the themes should poliched and refined to be more convient, but the "wrapped tabs", "native tabs" and "side winder" presentations beat the current default presentation theme without any question. Why did you do not create a post and a poll about this plugin/themes on the "planet eclipse" (http://planeteclipse.org) page? Keep up the good work! Thank you again.
Uhm, it's not JM's plugin. He wrote the original sidewinder presentation, I wrote the original wrapped tabs and native presentations, and both of us collaborated with each other and other Eclipse committers to get the plugin to this point. His name is on all the commit comments because he moved it from the private repository we used for development. The plugin belongs to Eclipse.org.
Well since you say so...I'll reassign it to you. ;)
There are no plans to make these part of the SDK, although it will be included as an "official" example once the polish is in place. We may use this to prototype new features under consideration for the default presentation, and hope that it will help others who want to release their own presentation plugins.
Hi Stefan, I saw only Jean-Michel as CVS committer, sorry. Your both (and other committers) made the great addition to 3.1, thank you!
Re: comment 2 I really shouldn't have started ranting about credit, but now that I've started I should probably finish giving it where it's due. The bare title presentation was also done by Jean-Michel, and the native presentation is a look-alike an earlier presentation written by Nick Edgar (which was really the first presentation besides the Eclipse 3.0 default look).
The examples are great! Especially the native tabs look awesome on MacOSX and Linux. It is possible to move the system toolbar in the the normal toolbar for the views? I mean the toolbar with the maximize and minimize buttons. And I would add a possibility to change the orientation of the tabs. And can you remove the toolbar from the editor part?
A small notice about two new skins for Eclipse 3.1 - Willian Mitsuda has released a new "VS like" presentation plugin under: http://sourceforge.net/projects/eclipse-skins and I have enhanced it with many standard Eclipse presentation features (inspired by your contribution): http://andrei.gmxhome.de/skins/index.html
Created attachment 24274 [details] Patch to improve the example with the native tabs
Created attachment 24275 [details] Screenshot of example with the native tabs
Created attachment 24347 [details] Improved patch for the native tabs presentation Some cleanup. Also added some code to hide the toolbar if no tabs are opened.
Is there someplace I can download a patched version so I don't have to build Eclipse myself?
Do you mean with the native presentation patch? Then I have made the patched Eclipse 3.1.1 available for ppc at http://vern.chem.tu-berlin.de/~stephan/software/ubuntu/ as Debian package.
The PresentationAPI has been deprecated with the Eclipse 4.x release and it has been replaced with the CSS engine. I therefore close this bugs as WONTFIX. In case your bug report is still valid for the Eclipse 4.4 release, please open a new bug report for it.
