using i1214 (and for the past few months)

I have a layout where my perspective is only editor area and the various 
explorers etc are in torn off views.  I frequently (though not always) get in a 
state were if there are no editors open in the main window, it is impossible 
for me to get focus into the main window.  As a result I cannot pull down any 
menus.  If I do have editors open than I have to click in one of the editors 
before I can use the editors.

This is very frustrating and basically forces me to open some random file just 
to get focus.
