Description Jim H CLA 2004-11-30 07:38:17 EST
When starting a new project, it would be good to be able to choose the licence
it is released under.

The most common ones - GPL, BSD, Artistic, Creative Commons, public domain etc
would be included by default, with the option for the user to define their own.

Code templates could then have a tag ${licence_notice}, which would be
substituted with, for example "this is free software; you can redistribute
it...". A copy of the full text of the licence could also be included in the
project folder when a new project is started, at least for licence types which
reqiure it.

Of course, the Eclipse Public Licence would be included as a choice by default.
Section 3, paragraph 2 of the EPL:

"When the Program is made available in source code form ...a copy of this
Agreement must be included with each copy of the Program."

I think this illustrates quite well why it would be a good idea to include a
copy of the licence in the project folder when a new project is created.

I'm not sure where this would be implemented...

Example of this elsewhere

I've attached a shot of this feature, on the new project dialog of KDevelop.

I'm not (yet) familiar with the workings of Eclipse, so I couldn't say where it
could be added. It's on my todo list to look into this.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
