Description Thomas Whitmore CLA 2004-05-26 02:57:22 EDT
Search and Replace for selected lines incorrectly replaces beyond the selection.

The Search dialog and functionality has for a long time been one of the weak
points of Eclipse.

All I want is the ability to replace TWO different-case variants of the same
text, in the exact selection I have highlighted, without the dialog or
selection being smart (stupid) switched to incorrect settings.

So I am frustrated that major unreliability is still present in what should be
simple, straightforward and functional.

Also:

The 'selection by line boundaries' idea needs to go. It is a major offense to
users when their selection is partial-line and your dialog disregards or
damages code by ignoring this.

3m9 by the way.

Can you please provide steps? Which dialog are you using, what are you searching
for and what do you replace it with?

Also: I don't understand what the selection has to do with this.

I assume you are talking about Find/Replace, right?

Tom,

please check whether we broke this with recent changes

reproducable with I20040525
Comment 5 Tom Hofmann CLA 2004-05-26 04:20:09 EDT
should be adressed for 3.0
Comment 6 Tom Hofmann CLA 2004-05-26 05:10:04 EDT
happens if projection mode is used. fixed not respecting the scope > 20040526.

For the usability problems with the scope (and the scope being replaced /
deselected autmagically) see:

you already filed bug 48463 for the "entire line selection"
bug 45658 deselection of the scope

marking as fixed as the bug with the scope is fixed.

Ladies & Gentlemen: the bug still lives in official release 3.0

I noticed that this bug was NOT fixed in the official release 3.0
but (silently) in M3.1
Although I appreciate that, I would like to see this reflected in this bug list
or in a "what's new" that seems to be missing this time.
Any way, a reason for upgrade and test.
Thanks so far.
