Description Erich Gamma CLA 2004-05-23 17:12:14 EDT
There are some small tweaks that improve the Colors and Fonts preference page:

* sort the entries by definition kind, i.e., all the fontdefinitions appear
together before the color defintions.
For example the Basic node shows up as:
   Basic
      Active link color
      Banner Font
      Dialog Font
      Error text color
      Header Font..
Notice how color and font entries appear intermixed.
This is confusing and the font and color entries should be grouped together.

* fontdefinition entries show the fontstyle in the tree item label. While this
is a nice use of the new support to change the font of tree items, it is
confusing since fontdefinition entries which use bold appear as more important
(more emphasis) than others. Suggest to show all entries in the default font.

* (least important) support double clicking an entry
double clicking a font definition -> open the Font Dialog
double clicking a color defintion -> open the Color dialog

Could you also make the tree control expand vertically (not just horizontally)
as you resize the preference window please? Tree controls in small view panes
are really painful.

Hi,

I just downloaded Eclipse 3.1.2 and I am using it on Windows XP SP2 with J2SE 1.5.0_06-b05. In Preferences > General > Appearance > Colors and Fonts, I can change the face of the Text Font, but I cannot change its color. Worse, though I configured in the Windows Display control panel the color for text as a dark blue, Eclipse ignores this and instead uses black. As the window background color I use is grey, this leads to terrible contrast. In any case, it seems that either there should be no option to select a color for the font, or else the change should be reflected in my editor. I've heard good things about Eclipse and I'm looking forward to using it. Thanks!

Eric Friedman

Eric, the Text editor color can be configured on the Preferences > General > Editors > Text Editors page: Set the Foreground color (and the Selection fg color if you like).

For other editors (e.g. the Java editor), check their respective preference pages.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
